Edward Murray, a 23-year-old Ohio resident, was taken into custody on suspicion of killing his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son. He faces charges of murder, felonious assault, and child endangerment following his arrest on May 10. The child was found unresponsive when paramedics arrived.
On May 1, paramedics responded to a residence in Cincinnati after receiving a distress call. There, they discovered an unresponsive child and immediately worked to save his life.
The child was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead on May 5, as reported by WCPO.
The child’s injuries were devastating: cardiac arrest leading to brain damage, a shattered rib, a lacerated liver, bleeding eye tissue, and brain swelling. Medical experts assert that these injuries could only have resulted from forceful impacts against objects or deliberate blows, as reported by People.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers, in a statement released by WCPO, conveyed that child abuse experts at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital concluded that the injuries sustained by the one-year-old could only have resulted from forceful impacts against objects or deliberate blows.
The severity of this case is both heart-wrenching and deeply disturbing, as it highlights the unimaginable cruelty inflicted upon an innocent child.
According to reports, Edward Murray and Aminata Keita, who had been dating for approximately three months, were involved in this tragic incident. On the night of May 1, Murray was playing with the child outdoors. He later carried the exhausted boy inside and put him straight to bed, skipping dinner.
Following their marijuana use, Murray and Aminata Keita failed to check on the child again that night. The next morning, the child was found unresponsive while Murray was allegedly alone with him.
Murray’s defense attorney told WCPO that he doesn’t fit the profile of a typical murder suspect with no criminal background.
The attorney emphasized that Murray serves as an example of why one should avoid speaking to the police. Additionally, the defense attorney stated that Keita’s mother does not hold Murray responsible for her son’s death.
