According to Xinhua, the local main grid and power distribution networks are functioning normally, and there has been no impact on local train operations.
On January 23, 2024, a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border region. The epicenter of the quake was in the mountainous border area of Wushi County in northwest China’s Xinjiang region. Reports indicate several injuries and collapsed houses due to the tremors.
The quake occurred at 2:09 a.m. (1809 GMT) and had a depth of 22 km (13 miles). The Xinjiang railway department suspended operations, affecting 27 trains, and the area experienced 40 aftershocks.
Relief efforts were promptly activated, providing aid such as cotton tents, coats, quilts, mattresses, folding beds, and heating stoves. Nearby Kazakhstan also felt a 6.7-magnitude earthquake, but fortunately, no damage was reported there.
