A woman in the United States has reported that an Uber driver deceived her by pretending to be her ride. Instead, he drove her to a motel in Miami, Florida, where she “woke up naked” with no memory of how she arrived there.
Visiting from California, she was accompanied by her two male friends. After leaving their Miami Beach Airbnb, the group headed to a bar. According to the affidavit, one of the male friends hailed an Uber to transport them back to their Airbnb. The vehicle in question was a grey Honda HR-V.
The CCTV footage, reviewed by law enforcement, captured the victim alongside one of her friends in front of the Old City Hall in Miami Beach. She, clad in dark attire, was also observed on the video entering a grey Chevrolet Traverse before departing, as reported by CBS News.
The affidavit reportedly indicated that the driver, Danny Maurad-Avecillas, aged 49, transported her to Motel 77, which was over 20 minutes away, instead of taking her to her nearby Airbnb. The victim recounted, “He made me believe that was my Uber and said, ‘Get in the car, get in the car,’ and that’s it. It looked exactly like the car that I was waiting for”.
Danny Maurad-Avecillas, who is believed to be a registered Uber driver, allegedly utilized the victim’s credit card to cover the hourly stay at the motel and refuel his vehicle during the journey. The victim later regained consciousness only to find herself naked, with no recollection of how she arrived there or what transpired. Authorities are investigating the possibility of sexual assault, and the incident has left her with physical injuries.
