“He’s not breathing. He’s dead,” Contreras could be heard telling his wife just moments after the shooting on November 3, the New York Post reported.
“The fighting on the way home was unbearable.”
In that heart-wrenching moment captured by the camera, David Contreras, overwhelmed with distress, crouched on the ground. His trembling hand shielded his face, a feeble barrier against the weight of anguish that enveloped him.
“It’s not your fault. Please call my brother,” he begged his wife, according to the video. In the footage, his sobbing wife could be heard saying, “he’ll go to jail.”
Contreras called 911 moments after speaking to his wife, saying, “I just shot my son.”
Upon reaching the scene, police officers discovered Eric, a student at Florida International University, lifeless from gunshot wounds within the home.
Contreras was apprehended and pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge during his arraignment on November 27th. The exact chain of events that transformed the father-son disagreement into a heartbreaking incident of gun violence remains shrouded in uncertainty. Contreras is currently held without bond, awaiting his next court hearing scheduled for March 11.
