Following his emergence as the Republican frontrunner during Super Tuesday, Donald Trump has now firmly established control over the Republican National Committee (RNC). On Friday, two of the former US president’s staunch allies were officially elected to key positions within the RNC. The committee unanimously chose Michael Whatley as the chair and Lara Trump, the ex-POTUS’ daughter-in-law, as the co-chair. Notably, both candidates had received prior endorsements from Trump himself.
Candidates endorsed by Donald Trump have secured prominent positions within the Republican National Committee (RNC).
The North Carolina Republican Party leader is set to take over from Ronna McDaniel, who has held the position of RNC chairwoman since 2017. Last month, McDaniel announced her decision to step down from the role after facing pressure from Trump’s associates to remove her. In her emotional farewell address, McDaniel tearfully expressed, “President Trump deserves to see the changes he desires implemented within the RNC.”.
“I am committed to doing everything within my power to ensure the re-election of President Trump in November. To all of you who dedicated your efforts during this primary season or supported other candidates, I invite you to join me in rallying behind our president,” she added.
During the ceremony on Friday, Lara made a resolute declaration of her unwavering support for her father-in-law, stating, “Every action I take within this committee will be singularly focused on re-electing Donald Trump, flipping the Senate, and expanding the House this November.”
Lara Trump’s criticized online:
The unanimous committee decision to appoint Lara Trump as the RNC co-chair has ignited a firestorm of online outrage. Following the viral speech by the nominating speaker, netizens criticized her for insufficient qualifications for the role.
“In a world where qualifications are often gauged by titles and years of experience, we find solace in a profound truth: God does not summon the qualified; rather, He equips the chosen. Lara Trump personifies this very verity,” declared the speaker.
Reacting to the speech, CNN’s Edward-Isaac Dovere succinctly remarked, “This speech essentially elucidates why the daughter-in-law of the presumptive Republican Party nominee was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the Republican Party.”
In response to the speech, MSNBC’s Jen Psaki quipped, “Someone penned this line, likely expecting it to be a showstopper: ‘God does not summon the qualified; rather, He equips the chosen.’”
Another furious on X, expressed their frustration: “Lara Trump now holds the position of Co-Chair of the RNC. After a lifetime of contributing to every GOP nominee and multiple down-ballot candidates each cycle… I’m done. My donations were meant to secure election victories, not to sustain the lifestyle of a billionaire. There’s no longer any point in donating.”
