A Texas woman recounted her terrifying health ordeal on social media, which ultimately led her to the intensive care unit (ICU). According to Alicia Hallock, she came perilously close to death after receiving Botox injections as a treatment for her migraine condition, as reported by People Magazine.
Alicia Hallock, who is in her mid-30s, reported that following the injections, she experienced partial paralysis and dysphagia, a condition that makes swallowing challenging and can result in choking on saliva.

She further explained that the injections caused paralysis in her neck muscles, rendering her unable to lift her head. Additionally, Alicia Hallock had to rely on a feeding tube for essential nutrients.
In an Instagram post last month, the mother-of-three shared her harrowing experience: “I ended up having a rare complication. They moved me to the ICU to be constantly monitored, and I’ve had 6 tubes shoved down my throat to clear the mucus that’s stuck in my lungs and throat.”
Dysphagia, a condition characterized by difficulties in swallowing, can indeed be painful and, in severe cases, may render swallowing nearly impossible. While it can affect individuals of any age, it is more commonly observed among the elderly. The causes of swallowing problems can vary, and prompt medical attention is crucial for prolonged dysphagia. Treatment approaches depend entirely on the underlying cause.
During her recovery, Hallock diligently kept her followers informed about her medical progress. In a poignant video, she bravely removed her neck brace, revealing the challenges she faced while attempting to move her head. After an 18-day hospital stay, she was finally discharged and is now recuperating at home.
Expressing her emotions as a mix of fear and horror, she candidly stated, “I could have lost my life.” The gravity of her situation hit home during several sobering moments, reinforcing her gratitude for receiving timely assistance.
Emphasizing that individuals can indeed encounter issues related to Botox, including the symptoms she personally endured, Hallock—also coping with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome—highlighted the rarity of experiencing multiple symptoms simultaneously. Consequently, the hospital has chosen to conduct a case study on her unique situation.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting blood vessel walls, skin, and joints, may have influenced her body’s reaction to the Botox injections.
