During renovations on Tuesday, a devastating fire broke out at a nightclub in Istanbul, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 29 lives. Authorities have detained several individuals, including club managers, for questioning.
According to a statement from the Istanbul governor’s office, at least one individual is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital following the tragic fire incident at the Masquerade nightclub.
The Masquerade nightclub, situated on the ground and basement floors of a 16-story residential building in Istanbul’s Besiktas district, was undergoing renovations when the fire broke out. The incident occurred on the European side of the city, which is bisected by the Bosphorus.
Fortunately, emergency responders managed to extinguish the fire, but the impact of this tragedy remains deeply felt by the community .
Governor Davut Gul, addressing reporters at the scene, revealed that the fire’s cause is currently under investigation. Tragically, the victims are suspected to be individuals engaged in the renovation work.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc has confirmed that five individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the tragic fire incident at the Masquerade nightclub. Among those detained are the club managers and an individual responsible for overseeing the renovations.
Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stated that officials were conducting a comprehensive safety assessment of the entire building. In response to the incident, multiple firefighting and medical teams were promptly dispatched to the scene.
