According to the accompanying text, this seismic event stands as New Jersey’s most powerful earthquake since a 5.2-intensity quake in 1884, and fortunately, no damage has been reported.

On Friday, New Jersey felt the tremors of a 4.0-magnitude aftershock. In response, Governor Phil Murphy issued an urgent plea to residents: “Adhere to emergency protocols. While the situation unfolds, please refrain from calling 911 unless you are facing a genuine emergency.”

The epicenter of the aftershock was located approximately 7.4 miles northwest of Bridgewater, which lies just beyond the county line in Somerset County . This aftershock occurred in the same area of New Jersey as the earlier earthquake and was felt throughout the region.
