On Friday morning, the New York City area experienced a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. The seismic impact, lasting only a few seconds, was felt by approximately 42 million civilians, according to the USGS.
The quake originated near Lebanon at 10:23 am local time and its tremors extended from New Jersey through Pennsylvania to Connecticut.
The unexpected and violent occurrence took New York City residents by surprise, catching them off guard due to their lack of preparedness. A TikTok video posted by user @allison.martins_ captured the live moment when the tremors struck their home on Friday.
Fortunately, the earthquake caused minimal damage to the city, but the unfamiliar and unsettling experience left the bewildered residents shaken and disoriented.
