In the United Kingdom, four Indian-origin men have been convicted for the brutal murder of a 23-year-old delivery driver, who shared their Indian heritage. These men were sentenced to a combined total of 122 years in prison.
Last August, Aurman Singh, a delivery driver, tragically lost his life in a brutal attack in Shrewsbury, western England. The assailants used a horrifying array of weapons, including an axe, a golf club, a wooden stave, a metal club, a hockey stick, a shovel, a cricket bat, and a knife. The West Mercia Police subsequently apprehended four men in connection with this heinous crime, as reported by the BBC.
The four men, namely Arshdeep Singh and Jagdeep Singh from Dudley, along with Shivdeep Singh and Manjot Singh from Smethwick, have been sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in prison.
Sukhmandeep Singh, hailing from Peterborough, has been identified as an “insider” who allegedly provided crucial information to the four assailants regarding Aurman Singh’s deliveries on the fateful day of the attack. As a result, he has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter.
During the trial, the police failed to uncover any evidence that could rationally explain the motive behind the vicious and brutal attack on Aurman Singh.
Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Mark Bellamy of West Mercia Police, who led the murder investigation said, “I am pleased that significant sentences have been handed to these men for the brutal murder of Aurman Singh. These five men are dangerous individuals who will now serve a considerable sentence in prison where they cannot cause further harm to the wider public.”
“Aurman’s family have understandably been left shattered when he was tragically killed in a planned and brutal attack in Shrewsbury, and my thoughts and condolences remain with them,” he said.
“Today’s sentence should send a strong message to those who think they can come into our towns and cities to commit violent crime that we will not stop in our efforts to find them and put them before the courts,” he added.
Judge Kristina Montgomery KC, presiding over the trial at Stafford Crown Court, characterized the assault as “horrifying brutality” and “a very public execution.” She further emphasized that Aurman Singh was abandoned to perish by the roadside after the vicious attack in Shrewsbury. The details of this tragic incident were reported by the BBC.
Following the conclusion of a six-week trial, the same court convicted the five men last month.
As per the prosecution’s account, Aurman Singh endured a horrific attack. He suffered three axe blows to the head, resulting in a fractured skull and a penetrating injury to his brain. Additionally, he was viciously struck on the head with a golf club, the force of which caused the club’s head to break off and left the shaft bent. This brutal incident unfolded in Shrewsbury last August, as reported by the BBC.
The assailants subjected the driver to a brutal assault, wielding both a hockey stick and a wooden stave. With unrelenting force, they stabbed him in the back, the blade slicing through one of his ribs. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Aurman Singh’s family expressed their profound grief in a heart-wrenching statement:
“Today a mother will grow old without her son. A sister will grow up without her brother. We don’t want what has happened to us to happen to another family,” the statement, issued through the police, said.
“It is an unbearable loss for us which has changed our lives. My daughter and myself will be living our lives for the sake of it but our happiness and the will to live is not there,” it added.
“We would like to thank the police for conducting their investigation diligently and supporting us through this tough time,” the statement further said.
