Russian influencer Maxim Lyutyi has been sentenced to eight years in prison following the tragic death of his one-month-old son, Kosmos. Lyutyi’s misguided belief that exposing the infant to sunlight would grant him superhuman abilities led to a heartbreaking outcome.
The baby suffered from malnutrition and pneumonia, ultimately passing away while being rushed to a hospital in Sochi. Despite Lyutyi’s expectations of an early release, the consequences of his actions have resulted in a severe legal penalty.
Following his last-minute change of plea to guilty last week, Maxim Lyutyi, the Russian influencer, now faces more than eight years behind bars in a high-security prison. His conviction is for the ‘intentional infliction of serious bodily harm.
According to Metro, Kosmos was born at home because Maxim Lyutyi refused to allow the boy’s mother, Oksana Mironova, to go to a maternity hospital.
Following his earlier misguided actions, Maxim Lyutyi implemented a regimen for his infant son, Kosmos, centered around a strictly vegan ‘prana’ diet. This diet emphasized foods such as berries, believed to enhance the body’s spiritual energy.
Indeed, there exists an even more extreme variant known as breatharianism, which takes the concept of sustenance to extraordinary lengths. According to this belief, individuals can derive all their nourishment solely from sunlight.
Mironova’s cousin, Olesya Nikolayeva, was deeply troubled by the situation. She recounted how he (presumably the boyfriend) compelled Mironova not to feed the baby. The boyfriend held an unconventional belief: that the sun itself was nourishing the infant.
Oksana, in a clandestine manner, attempted to breastfeed the baby, all while harboring a deep fear of Maxim.
“How is it possible to feed the baby with sunlight? A baby needs his mother’s milk.”
According to reports, the Russian influencer Maxim Lyutyi harbored a disturbing belief: he aimed to conduct an unconventional experiment on his one-month-old son, Kosmos. His plan? To nourish the baby solely with sunlight and subsequently promote this extreme dietary approach to others.
Lyutyi, who once clung to unconventional beliefs, has undergone a remarkable transformation. While imprisoned, the now 48-year-old has entirely forsaken his previous convictions. Astonishingly, he now even partakes in meat consumption—a stark departure from his earlier stance.
Oksana’s mother, Galina, laments that this change of heart did not occur sooner. The tragic saga of Kosmos serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of misguided faith and the importance of evidence-based care for infants .
She said: ‘I was against my daughter being in this sect. ‘I felt everything, and told her that Maxim was crazy, but she didn’t listen to me. ‘Oksana lived there like a guinea pig. Each time she became colder to me…. She was his slave.’
“She contemplated leaving him on numerous occasions, but he always restrained her. His peculiar aspiration was to mold his son into a being sustained solely by sunlight,” Another relative stated.
When Lyutyi finally consented to take his baby boy to the hospital, it was tragically too late. Kosmos, severely malnourished, succumbed before reaching the medical facility on March 8 of last year, as reported by the Metro.
Medical professionals pronounced the 3.5-pound baby deceased, leading to the subsequent arrest of both Lyutyi and Mironova.
During his final court hearing, the influencer, Maxim Lyutyi, made a shocking confession: he had killed his one-month-old son. As a result, prosecutors are now seeking a sentence of eight and a half years in prison along with a hefty fine of nearly 900 pounds.
