Anthony and Rachel Modrow, parents from Hopkins, Minnesota, are facing charges after their nine-year-old daughter tragically died following an asthma attack. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention, they allegedly ran a bath for her. The incident occurred when Amy Lynn Modrow was at a friend’s house for a sleepover.
The friend’s parent noticed the severity of the situation and offered to take her to the doctor, but Amy’s parents declined. It was only after a family friend arrived and found Amy in critical condition that they called 911.
Unfortunately, Amy passed away due to a lack of oxygen to her brain. The parents are now in custody, facing second-degree manslaughter charges.
The parents of the nine-year-old girl are now facing charges of second-degree manslaughter due to their alleged neglect and endangerment of their child.
According to court documents, Amy, the nine-year-old, informed her friend’s mother that she had only brought her grandmother’s inhaler when she began having trouble breathing.
According to court documents cited in the Metro report, Anthony was called by the woman, and he then handed the phone to Rachel. Rachel requested that Amy be taken home.
Amy’s aunt assured Amy’s parents that the girl wasn’t pretending the attack and even offered to take her to the doctor. However, the Modrows declined the offer. Three hours later, another family friend visited the Modrow home and discovered that Amy’s skin had turned blue. She was struggling to lift her hand and crying.
While Rachel was busy preparing a steam bath for Amy, Anthony neglected to fill her inhaler, according to the family friend’s testimony documented in court records. The family friend insisted that Amy required urgent medical attention and promptly took her out of the house.
At 10:40 am, approximately three hours after Amy’s flare-up began, the family friend dialed 911, as indicated by phone logs.
Amy was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Centre, where doctors struggled to detect a pulse. Tragically, she was declared brain dead due to oxygen deprivation. Subsequent investigations revealed that Amy’s chances of survival would have significantly improved with earlier medical intervention.
This underscores the importance of taking asthma attacks seriously. If a flare-up persists for more than a few seconds after using an inhaler, it is crucial to seek emergency assistance.
