A cat in China unintentionally activated the induction cooker in its owner’s kitchen, resulting in a fire that caused over 100,000 yuan in damages.
The cat’s owner received a phone call on April 4 from the property management staff in her residential complex, informing her that her home was on fire.
Dandan hurried back to her apartment in southwestern China’s Sichuan province and discovered that her cat, Jingoudiao, had inadvertently triggered the fire.
While innocently playing in the kitchen, Jingoudiao accidentally pressed the touch panel of the induction cooker, igniting a blaze that consumed the entire first floor of her loft.
Subsequently, firefighters discovered the golden British Shorthair cat concealed in an upstairs cabinet, its fur coated in ash but thankfully unharmed.
Following the incident, the cat’s owner modified its Douyin account name to “Sichuan’s most daring cat.” She then featured her pet in live-streaming sessions as a form of “compensation.”
In jest, she referred to this arrangement as making her cat “work off his debt” and even playfully labeled him as an “arsonist.”
Several days later, Dandan shared an online apology letter, complete with her fingerprint and Jingoudiao’s paw print as signatures. In the letter, she acknowledged her mistake, admitting that she had neglected to turn off the power to the cooker. She pledged to be more vigilant about fire safety moving forward.
Her entertaining posts gained widespread attention and sparked discussions among other pet owners.
One individual expressed gratitude, saying, ‘I just turned off my electric stove. My mischievous cat roams freely throughout my apartment.’
Another person remarked, ‘My cat persistently flushes the toilet, resulting in hefty water bills for me.
