In the United States, a man who monitored his ex-girlfriend’s whereabouts using a social media app was convicted of first-degree murder. Aldrick Scott was sentenced to life in prison after killing his former girlfriend, Cari Allen, when she returned home, according to People.
Initially, authorities charged Scott with kidnapping, but later investigations revealed that he had tracked her location on Snapchat and waited at her residence until she arrived before fatally shooting her.
In November 2022, Cari Allen, aged 43, disappeared. While on a date at a restaurant, her ex-boyfriend tracked her location. During the trial, prosecutors claimed that Scott followed her and waited for her at home.
He had driven from Topeka, Kansas, to Nebraska, using Snapchat maps to monitor Ms. Allen’s movements. After waiting for over an hour, he tragically murdered her before fleeing the country.
After evading authorities, Aldrick Scott was apprehended in Belize. Tragically, Ms. Allen’s remains were discovered in a shallow grave.
“It’s that typical thing with regard to domestic violence, cases of control, and if I don’t have control or if I can’t have you, no one will,” Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said, according to the outlet.
The judge said, “It was clear that you could not take the breakup with Cari Allen, your obsession motivated the crimes you stand convicted of.”
“So, her life’s taken because he’s upset and he doesn’t get what he wants,” Mr Kleine added.
The judge, during the sentencing, described Ms. Allen’s murder as both senseless and tragic. Additionally, the court emphasized the abundance of evidence supporting the charges.
Furthermore, both the judge and prosecutors observed that Scott displayed no emotion or remorse throughout the trial and sentencing.
Mr. Kleine remarked, ‘I never witnessed any indication of remorse, sorrow, or any other sentiment from the defense in this case.’
On the contrary, the defense argued that Scott and Ms. Allen had recently ended their relationship. When Scott visited Ms.
Allen at her home in 2022, an incident occurred. Scott claimed he acted in self-defense and fled in panic. As a result, Scott received a life sentence in prison, along with an additional 45 to 60 years.
