Giovanna Ventola, a South Carolina resident who faced three layoffs, claims to have “cracked the code” for job applications. Despite the challenges of job hunting, she discovered a transformative approach. Recently, she shared her technique on TikTok, advising people to apply for jobs on Mondays and revisit listings on Fridays after repostings.
Ventola, who faced three layoffs in the past three years, advises job seekers to apply on Mondays and revisit listings on Fridays after repostings. She emphasizes that the job market has significantly shifted since the pandemic, especially in the commercial real estate industry.
Her TikTok video, which garnered over a million views, offers hope and practical guidance for those navigating these changes.
“It’s taken a huge toll on my mental health and this time I really wanted to find the power in my search and take control of the way I was handling my professional future. It’s really hard to grow when you keep getting cut down,” she said.
Giovanna Ventola, aged 34, had an epiphany: she didn’t require a job solely for personal growth. Instead, she decided to utilize this time to develop her skills, potentially benefiting a future employer or even becoming one herself. Her perspective exemplifies resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity.
In November 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, she experienced her first layoff. Unfortunately, she faced two more job losses: one due to her company’s bankruptcy and another right before the holidays, alongside coworkers who had been with the company for only 90 days. The suddenness of the third layoff was particularly jarring.
In March 2024, Ventola established the Rhize professional Slack network, aiming to foster advice-sharing among job seekers.
During a conversation, a former HR executive recommended a weekly schedule for the unemployed: publish job ads on Mondays, accept submissions until Tuesday morning, and initiate applicant reviews promptly. This strategic approach helps maximize productivity and streamline the job search process.
She personally reviewed all the resumes and plans to contact qualified candidates for interviews next week on Wednesday and Thursday. If there aren’t enough applications, she’ll repost the job ad on Friday.
The recruiter follows a specific schedule: she actively applies for positions from Monday through Tuesday morning, intentionally avoids reviewing applications on Wednesday and Thursday, and dedicates Fridays to reviewing reposted job listings.
On TikTok, Ms. Ventola shared advice that she found incredibly practical. She emphasized the importance of structuring your day effectively, managing your own calendar, and feeling productive. According to her, these practices positively impact mental health.
