President Joe Biden swiftly responded to his predecessor and Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, who had mocked fellow party candidate Nikki Haley’s husband. Biden asserted that Trump’s understanding of service is so lacking that he “wouldn’t know service to his country if it slapped him in the face.”
Nikki Haley, a fellow candidate, has also defended her husband’s service. She emphasized that anyone who disrespects military families is unfit to be commander in chief. Major Haley, deployed with the South Carolina Army National Guard, has been Nikki Haley’s unwavering support throughout their more than 25 years together. His commitment to service remains steadfast, even during her presidential campaign, reflecting their shared life of dedication to country .
Biden, using his official platform, responded, “The answer is that Major Haley is abroad, serving his country right now. We know he thinks our troops are “suckers,” but this guy wouldn’t know service to his country if it slapped him in the face.”
Biden’s statement was a swift response to the former president’s remarks during a Saturday rally in her state.
“Where’s her (Nikki Haley’s) husband?” Trump said, adding, “‘Oh, he’s away, he’s away.’ What happened to her husband? What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone”, according to The Hill.
Major Michael Haley, Nikki Haley’s husband, embarked on a deployment to Africa in June of last year. As a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard, he answered the call of duty with dedication. In a poignant ceremony held at The Citadel, a prestigious military college in Charleston, Nikki Haley bid him farewell. Surrounded by 200 fellow soldiers, the farewell marked a significant moment in their shared life of service.
She further criticised Trump’s disrespect towards military families, asserting that someone who continually disrespects their sacrifices has no business being commander in chief. Michael Haley also responded, tagging Trump in a post that highlighted the difference between humans and animals, emphasising leadership qualities.
“Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about,” Haley posted on X, adding, “Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief.” “He’s always been my rock,” Haley said.
“We have both lived a life of service, and so when he goes off to deploy, my support is completely with him. If I happen to be running for president, his support is completely with me,” she added.
Nikki Haley and her husband share a 25-year-long partnership, and he has been a constant presence at her campaign rallies. As a former United Nations ambassador, Haley openly spoke about the unique challenges and pride of being married to a military service member. Her husband, Michael Haley, joined the National Guard in the mid-2000s, as reported by The Hill.
