Three Indian-American students lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries when their speeding car overturned in Alpharetta, Georgia. All five individuals were 18 years old, and tragically, the two fatalities were women. According to the Alpharetta Police, excessive speed likely played a significant role in the fatal accident.
All five Indian-American teens were students at Alpharetta High School and the University of Georgia. Among the deceased students, Aryan Joshi was a senior at Alpharetta High School, while Sriya Avasarala and Anvi Sharma were both first-year students at the University of Georgia.
Among the injured students, Rithwak Somepalli, a Georgia State University student, was the driver of the Honda Accord, while Mohammed Liyakath is a senior at Alpharetta High School.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and come to rest upside down in a tree line. Tragically, Aryan Joshi and Sriya Avasarala were discovered deceased at the accident site, police stated.
Anvi Sharma, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, tragically passed away due to her injuries at North Fulton Hospital.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, and preliminary data indicates that excessive speed may have played a role.
Sriya Avasarala was part of the UGA Shikaari dance team, while Anvi Sharma was a singer in the UGA Kalakaar a cappella group.

Aryan Joshi, an Alpharetta High School senior and a member of the school’s cricket team, tragically lost his life in an accident on May 14.
The crash occurred on Westside Parkway, slightly north of Maxwell Road in Alpharetta, Georgia.
