On Wednesday, a gunman tried to attack the U.S. Embassy near Beirut, according to the Lebanese army.
According to a statement from the Lebanese military, soldiers wounded and apprehended an assailant near the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The individual, described as a Syrian national, was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
A prolonged gunfight occurred near the U.S. diplomatic mission in the Aukar suburb, north of Beirut. The U.S. Embassy confirmed that the morning attack at the embassy entrance did not result in any casualties among their staff. Lebanese troops and embassy security responded swiftly to the situation, according to local media reports.
The Lebanese military has positioned troops in the vicinity of the embassy and its surroundings. Back in 1983, a devastating bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut claimed the lives of 63 individuals. American authorities attributed the attack to the Lebanese militant organization Hezbollah.
