Senator Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, asserted on social media that the American embassy in Haiti failed to fulfill its duties when gangs reportedly killed Natalie and Davy Lloyd, a pair of missionaries who were ambushed by gang members.
On X (formerly Twitter), Baker shared his anguish, describing how his heart felt as if it had been shattered into countless fragments.
Senator Josh Hawley expressed his condolences to the family, stating, “Erin and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Natalie and Davy Lloyd, a remarkable missionary couple hailing from Missouri.”
“Married 2 years ago, they dedicated their lives to sharing the Gospel. They died in the mission field in Haiti last night at the hands of thugs. All of Missouri honors them,” he added.
In a follow-up tweet, Senator Josh Hawley asserted that Haitian “thugs” were responsible for the murder of Natalie and Davy Lloyd. He emphasized that the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince had allegedly failed to provide assistance in this tragic situation.
Senator Josh Hawley revealed that when his office requested urgent assistance from the American Embassy for Natalie and Davy, who were facing danger, the Embassy declined, citing the situation as “too perilous” for sending police.
In a scathing critique of the Biden administration, Hawley lamented, “Our nation has grown feeble. We are unable to safeguard our citizens from senseless violence.”
Hawley’s social media post garnered a variety of reactions. While some netizens expressed sympathy, others questioned why the couple continued to live in Haiti.
“Since July 27, 2023, there has been a level 4 advisory against traveling to Haiti,” as stated by a user named X.
The U.S. Department of State has instructed family members of U.S. government employees and non-emergency U.S. government employees to leave Haiti.
Additionally, U.S. citizens currently in Haiti are advised to depart promptly using commercial or other privately available transportation due to the existing security situation and infrastructure difficulties.
A second user remarked that Haiti is currently at its weakest point during their lifetime, and they find it embarrassing.
Another commenter added that Haiti has been akin to a war zone, emphasizing that no American should be in any of these countries.
