According to Mark Gurman, in the Q&A section of his Power On newsletter, Apple’s highly anticipated AI unveiling is scheduled for June 10 during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024.
Notably, the initial wave of features will operate solely on device, without any reliance on cloud processing. This means that the company’s robust language model, which drives these new capabilities, won’t involve cloud components.
Mark Gurman suggests that Apple may continue to provide cloud-based AI features, leveraging Google’s Gemini or another provider. The company has engaged in talks with several entities, including Google, OpenAI, and China’s Baidu, exploring potential generative AI collaborations.
Apple is actively acquiring AI servers, as indicated by supply chain analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu. This move suggests that the company may explore its own cloud-based generative AI features in the future.
“Apple has officially confirmed that its WWDC 2024 event will start on June 10, where iOS 18 for iPhone users will be officially announced. The festivities will get started with a special keynote on Monday, June 10 till June 14.
