In a surprising incident captured by a security camera at a bank in Rio de Janeiro, a woman, identified as 42-year-old Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, was seen wheeling a deceased man, 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga, into the branch.
According to CNN Brazil, Nunes allegedly tried to use Mr. Braga’s identity to complete loan documents, prompting questions about her desperate actions.
According to Reuters, Nunes approached a bank teller and informed them that her uncle wished to secure a loan amounting to approximately $3,250. In the security video, she held a pen and attempted to move her uncle’s hand forward, urging him to sign.
“Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign,” she said, according to the security video, suggesting she sign for him. “He doesn’t say anything, that’s just how he is,” she said, adding, “If you’re not okay, I’m going to take you to the hospital.”
The bank staff grew increasingly suspicious as the man’s head repeatedly fell backward whenever the woman released her grip. Concerned about the unusual situation, they promptly contacted the police, who swiftly arrested her on fraud charges.
The deceased man’s body was subsequently transported to the morgue for further investigation, as reported by Reuters.
The incident unfolded in Bangu, a neighborhood located in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bangu is considered one of the city’s most populous neighborhoods. Bank staff became suspicious when they noticed her talking into the ear of the pale, limp man’s body.
Following the incident at the bank in Bangu, the deceased man’s body was indeed taken to a morgue for further examination.
However, the woman’s lawyer attempted to argue that the man had died while at the bank. Contrary to this claim, a police forensic analysis revealed that he had actually passed away earlier while lying down.
