A former teacher, who was incarcerated for raping a child while serving as the deputy head at a primary school, has received a permanent ban from re-entering the teaching profession. This decision comes after Julie Morris, now 46 years old, held the role of ‘safeguarding lead’ at St George’s Central Primary School in Tyldesley, near Wigan.
During this time, she was involved in acts of ‘grave sexual depravity’ with her mechanic boyfriend. The BBC reported on this case.
As reported by the news outlet, Following Morris’ conviction and sentencing, her case came under scrutiny by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), which oversees misconduct cases.
On February 19 of this year, a three-person panel was assembled to reassess her situation. Notably, Morris requested that the proceedings occur without a public hearing and in her absence.
The panel’s report highlighted a disturbing aspect of Ms. Morris’s case: despite her role as the safeguarding lead at the school, she was involved in abusing a child, even though the victim was not a student at the same school.
Furthermore, the panel concluded that there is a real risk of Ms. Morris repeating her offending behavior. They noted that her actions were “deliberate and sustained,” and there was no evidence that she was acting under duress.
David Oatley, the individual responsible for barring her from teaching, stated in his report: “Given the gravity of the substantiated allegations against her, I have determined that Ms. Morris will not be eligible to seek reinstatement of her teaching credentials.”
