Kashaan Parks faces a range of serious charges related to a brutal sexual assault case in the Bronx. The incident involved the suspect using a belt to strangle a woman and then raping her. Parks, aged 39, was arrested by the NYPD on Saturday morning, May 11.
According to ABC 7, the charges against him include second-degree rape, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, sex abuse in the first-degree, first-degree public lewdness, and harassment in the first-degree. The assault occurred near East 152nd Street and 3rd Avenue on May 1.
According to the police, the victim and the suspect were acquainted. After the incident captured on camera, she was promptly taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and is currently in stable condition.
According to an anonymous Bronx detective cited by the New York Post, the suspect displayed a disturbing level of precision in his actions. The detective believes that this is not the suspect’s first time committing such acts.
“It was too clean. Normally, the first time out they make huge mistakes. This was no mistake. This guy was precise.”
“There’s probably more victims out there but what happens is they blackout and don’t remember anything,” the detective said. “How do you get the belt around the neck perfectly like that?”
Parks has a history of prior arrests. In one incident, he was charged with third-degree assault and criminal mischief in the Bronx on October 14, 2018. Allegedly, he struck a 46-year-old woman multiple times during an argument and also jumped on top of her.
Additionally, in 2013, he faced charges related to theft of services after allegedly boarding an MTA bus without making a payment.
According to police sources, the suspect in the Bronx case eventually ceased cooperating with authorities. As of May 5, a total of 511 rapes had been reported across the city, which matches the number reported during the same period last year.
According to reports, Kashaan Parks’ mother played a crucial role in his arrest. Beverly Parks, who is 56 years old, stated that her son’s wife informed her that he had assaulted and raped a woman. In her own words, “I’m the one who facilitated his arrest.
“I’m his mother that turned him in. I’m the one that facilitated him being arrested,” told New York Post. “I found out about this yesterday morning at 5:12 am, and I’ve been trying to get my son to do the right thing ever since. And I did.”
Beverly mentioned that her son has been grappling with substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs. The father of two was currently without employment.
“He … had a one-year-old baby. It’s not like he was walking the street committing crimes and doing this,” she said. “I had my son go be accountable for his actions, no matter that he was drunk, that he was on drugs, that he was grieving.” she added, “He did something wrong and he has to deal with it. Period.”
