According to reports from local media, Dutch Crown Princess Amalia moved to Spain to escape threats to her safety. She made this decision as she was preparing for her official debut at a state occasion later on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old princess resided and studied in Madrid for over a year, as mentioned by public broadcaster NOS, citing royal sources.
In October 2022, Princess Amalia had to abandon her plans to live in student accommodations due to security concerns.
This decision came only a few weeks after she began her studies at Amsterdam University, where she was pursuing a diverse range of subjects including politics, psychology, law, and economics .
The Dutch crown princess was photographed with a radiant smile as she embarked on her studies, drawing attention to her decision to reside in student housing.
However, the royal couple subsequently announced that their daughter had been compelled to return to the heavily fortified palace in The Hague.
“She can’t live in Amsterdam and she can’t really go outside (the palace)… It has enormous consequences on her life,” said an emotional Queen Maxima at the time.
Officially its not confirm the details, but the decision to move Dutch Crown Princess Amalia came after reports that she and Prime Minister Mark Rutte were mentioned in communications by organized crime groups. These reports raised concerns about potential kidnappings.
According to NOS, the threat to Princess Amalia has not completely vanished, but she has been allowed to resume her life and studies in the Netherlands thanks to undisclosed “measures.”
Indeed, Princess Amalia is now residing in Amsterdam. This Wednesday, she will take on an official role for the first time during the two-day state visit of the Spanish royals.
