“With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Elena Larrea, the president and founder of Cuacolandia. Regrettably, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., she succumbed to a pulmonary thrombosis, which led to a clot in her lung,” stated the social media post.
“We will remember and continue to work for all that he bravely pushed from this foundation. We will promote their legacy and love so that our cuckoos, donkeys and mules live in freedom and in appropriate conditions in Mexico and in this, our sanctuary of equines rescued from abuse and abandonment,” it added.
As reported by The Daily Beast, Elena Larrea was a prominent Instagram horse girl and the visionary behind Cuacolandia, an animal rescue sanctuary. Her tireless activism extended beyond the shelter’s walls, as she played a pivotal role in legislative changes within the Mexican state of Puebla.

Elena Larrea collaborated with the Animalist Movement of Puebla to advocate for the criminalization of bestiality in the state. Remarkably, she also took an unconventional step by joining OnlyFans to prevent the Cuacolandia sanctuary in Mexico City from facing bankruptcy.
During the challenging times caused by the Covid pandemic, she turned to this adult platform to ensure the sanctuary’s survival and continue her mission of protecting animals.
The passing of Ms. Elena Larrea elicited a response from the regional governor, Sergio Salomon. According to reports, Mr. Salomon hailed Ms. Larrea as an unwavering champion for animal rights and pledged to ensure the continuity of her animal rescue shelter by collaborating closely with the Ministry of Environment.
“We will provide all the necessary help so other horses are cared for by the authorities as well as those already rescued, prioritising their wellbeing at all times. We will follow your example. Rest in peace, Elena,” Mr Salomon said.
