The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, recently made an announcement: they will be covering the legal expenses for a Canadian doctor who faced harassment and investigation due to her controversial views on COVID-19 policy.
Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill, an immunologist and physician, received a warning from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2021, regarding her tweets. One of her controversial statements asserted that the COVID-19 vaccine was unnecessary.
Indeed she has initiated a crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising $300,000. These funds are intended to cover her legal expenses, which include costs related to a case she filed against what she characterizes as a “malicious online smear campaign”.

In a heartfelt video shared on her social media account via X on March 22. She revealed, “My deadline is at the end of March, and it’s $300,000 that I don’t have. After nearly four years of being entangled in multiple legal battles, I’ve been tirelessly advocating for my patients, fellow Canadians, and myself.” “So it’s now looking quite grim,” she added.
Describing the present circumstances as “daunting,” the Canadian physician expressed surprise at the unexpected price she had to pay for standing up for her convictions and speaking her conscience.
Gill reached out to Elon Musk via a post on X, earnestly seeking help to cover her legal expenses, earlier this week.
In reaction to her plea, X News rallied behind Gill, asserting that she faced harassment, investigations, and disciplinary measures from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Her outspoken criticism of the Canadian government’s COVID lockdown measures and vaccination mandates had led to this daunting situation.
X News has recently declared its commitment to fund Kulvinder Kaur Gill’s campaign, enabling her to cover the hefty $300,000 judgment and legal fees.
Their rationale is clear: “free speech is the bedrock of democracy and a critical defense against totalitarianism in all forms.” “We must do whatever we can to protect it, and at X we will always fight to protect your right to speak freely,” it added.
