Tragedy struck in Philadelphia’s Holmesburg neighborhood on Friday night when a high-speed, multi-vehicle hit-and-run collision resulted in one fatality and left several others injured.
As per the authorities, the collision occurred approximately at 9:11 p.m. near the intersection of 8400 State Road and Ashburner Street.
The initial investigation by the police indicated that a silver Nissan SUV was heading northbound on State Road. As it turned left onto Ashburner Street, it collided with a 2012 black Honda that was traveling southbound at a high speed.
According to the police, after the initial collision, the black Honda struck another vehicle—a black Ford Escape—and then collided with a utility pole. The impact was so severe that the pole became embedded in the black Honda.
Subsequently, the driver of the Nissan SUV left the scene, as reported by the police.
According to the police, there were three occupants inside the black Honda. Sadly, one passenger was declared deceased at the scene by medics around 9:30 p.m., while the other two individuals were urgently transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities have now confirmed that the individual who tragically lost their life is 17-year-old Shibin Sony from Northeast Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, the three occupants of the Ford Escape were taken to the hospital and are currently in stable condition, as reported by the police. The investigation remains active under the supervision of the Crash Investigation Division.
