A 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with the murder of a 66-year-old Indian-origin woman who was waiting at a bus stop in north-west London on Tuesday. He has been remanded in custody.
Anita Mukhey, a 66-year-old NHS medical secretary, was fatally stabbed at a London bus stop. The incident occurred in the Edgware area of north-west London, where she was waiting at the Burnt Oak Broadway bus stop. The accused, 22-year-old Jalal Debella, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
During his appearance at the Old Bailey Court in London, he was informed that he would need to enter a plea of either guilty or not guilty at the upcoming hearing scheduled for August.

“Police were called at around 11:50hrs on Thursday, 9 May, to reports of a stabbing in Burnt Oak Broadway,” the Metropolitan Police said.
Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, responded to the scene where a 66-year-old woman had sustained knife wounds. Tragically, despite their best efforts, she passed away at the location. Her family has been notified.
Jalal Debella was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in the Colindale area of north London on May 9. He has been charged with the murder of Anita Mukhey and possession of an offensive weapon. According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the preliminary cause of death was determined to be sharp force injuries to the chest and neck.
Anita Mukhey, was a dedicated mother and grandmother who also worked part-time as a Medical Secretary in the NHS. Her family has requested privacy during this challenging period, according to a statement issued by the police.
In response to the daylight attack, bystanders at the scene urgently yelled and urged the suspect to cease their actions, creating shockwaves throughout the community.
