A 17-year-old German teenager Lasse Stolley, has become a global sensation for his unique lifestyle as a “trainsquatter.” He resides on a Deutsche Bahn railcar, utilizing a yearly unlimited ticket that costs approximately $10,000. His daily routine involves traveling around Germany and Europe, covering an estimated 600 kilometers per day.
Stolley enjoys first-class train rides, sleeps on overnight trains, dines in the train’s dining car, washes his laundry in sinks, and showers at community centers and public swimming pools along the way. The New York Post recently highlighted his fascinating story.
In a recent on Instagram post, he wrote “Life on the train gives me the freedom to choose where I want to go at any time. Breakfast by the Baltic Sea in the morning and enjoy the sunset in the Alps in the evening – the possibilities are endless!” “The software developer maintains a high level of activity on social media.
The teenager spends a majority of his time working on his laptop while sitting among fellow travelers at booths with tables.
Additionally, he is often seen using noise-cancelling headphones to fall asleep, stretched out across seats with his travel blanket and neck pillow.
Living on a train offers no privacy whatsoever. I enjoy significant freedom, allowing me to choose my daily destinations—whether it’s the Alps, a bustling city, or the seaside. My flexibility knows no bounds.
For over a year now, Lasse Stolley, a 17-year-old from Germany, has embarked on an extraordinary journey. Remarkably, he’s covered an impressive 500,000 kilometers by traveling exclusively on German rails.
Lasse meticulously plans his daily adventures using an app, frequently hopping on commuter trains during the day and taking cross-country overnight rides. His nights are spent catching the night train, although sometimes he has to adjust his plans quickly due to unexpected delays.
At the age of 16 in 2022, the young man left his home in northern Germany, embarking on an unconventional journey. Convincing his parents to support this lifestyle wasn’t easy.
His minimalist wardrobe now consists of just four T-shirts, two pairs of trousers, a neck pillow, and a travel blanket—all carefully downsized to fit into a single bag.
His prized possessions? A laptop and noise-cancelling headphones, providing him with a modicum of privacy during his train travels.
With his established track record and knowledge in train operations, he anticipates securing employment in the same industry.
The teenager expressed a desire to provide feedback to transportation companies, such as Deutsche Bahn or train manufacturers, and receive compensation for doing so.
