Google recently implemented layoffs as part of cost-cutting measures. The most recent job cuts affected the entire Python team, with the company’s intention to reduce expenses by hiring more cost-effective labor outside the United States.
According to the Free Press Journal, Google plans to establish a new team in Munich, Germany, to achieve this goal.
A recent post on Mastodon, cited by Hacker News, highlighted the impact of Google’s layoffs on its Python team. According to a former Google Python team member, their two-decade career at the company was the best job they ever had.
Another employee expressed the pain of witnessing their entire team, including the manager, being let go and replaced by remote workers from abroad. This situation sheds light on the human aspects of capitalism’s downsides and disillusionment with the American dream.
Google’s Python team in the United States, consisting of fewer than 10 members, played a crucial role in managing various aspects of Google’s Python ecosystem.
Their responsibilities included maintaining Python stability within Google, keeping it up-to-date with numerous third-party packages, and contributing to the development of a type-checker.
Business Insider reported that Google has made staff reductions in its real estate and finance departments.

In January, Google made significant staff reductions across various teams, including engineering and hardware.
These layoffs were part of the company’s efforts to focus on investments and advancements in artificial intelligence technologies.
