A Punjab man, identified as Jagpreet Singh, has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of his wife in Canada. The victim, Balwinder Kaur, 41 years old, was found gravely injured inside their Abbotsford residence in British Columbia.
She had sustained life-threatening stab wounds. Despite first responders’ efforts, she tragically succumbed to her injuries at the hospital shortly afterward. The incident occurred on March 15 at a location on Wagner Drive in Abbotsford, officials said.
Jagpreet Singh, the husband of the victim, was apprehended at the scene in connection with the tragic incident.
“After stabbing my sister to death, Jagpreet made a video call to his mother back home in Ludhiana and said ‘I have put her to sleep forever’,” Balwinder’s sister told The Indian Express.
The couple frequently engaged in heated disputes over their financial situation. Jagpreet, who had recently arrived in Canada just a week prior, had ceased working and was currently unemployed. These financial strains appear to have contributed to the tension within their relationship.
According to The Indian Express, they tied the knot in the year 2000 and were blessed with a daughter and a son.
Jagpreet’s family, on the other hand, refuted the accusations and asserted that they were indeed a content and joyful couple.
Jagpreet’s brother, speaking to The Indian Express, expressed their uncertainty regarding the events of that fateful night between his brother and his wife. He emphasized that neither he nor their family had ever mistreated Balwinder Kaur. According to him, the couple was content and had even returned from shopping a few hours prior to the incident.
After the incident, my brother reached out to our mother, admitting that he had unintentionally harmed his wife. He sought forgiveness, emphasizing that there was no deliberate intent. The exact cause of the events that transpired that night remains a mystery, especially since their daughter was also absent at the time, he added.
