In Canada, a man of Indian descent shared a video on social media where he revealed how he managed to obtain free meals from food banks intended exclusively for students. However, this action reportedly led to him losing his job as a data scientist.
The video of the data scientist gained prominence after an Instagram user with the handle @Slatzism reposted it on the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter).
In the video, the man of Indian origin detailed how he manages to save hundreds of dollars each month by obtaining free meals from charity banks established within colleges and universities by trusts, churches, or non-profit organizations.
The same post also stated, “This individual works as a data scientist at TD Bank in Canada, a role that typically pays an average annual salary of $98,000. He openly shared a video demonstrating the abundance of ‘free food’ he receives from charity food banks.”
Soon after the video surfaced, it went viral, sparking heated discussions among X users. While some condemned the man’s actions, others expressed their support.

One individual commented, “We should reintroduce the concept of shame.” Another user remarked, “Feeling shame implies having the ability to reflect on one’s actions.” A third comment pointed out, “However, this person claims to be a student.”
Another individual expressed concern about the shift away from using proof of income as a criterion for receiving benefits. They shared their own experience, mentioning that their student stipend of $28,000 annually was generous but still insufficient to save much after covering rent and other expenses.
Despite financial challenges, they never considered seeking assistance from food banks or charities. Instead, they attended talks that offered free food.
The individual who originally posted the video has since provided an update. They shared a screenshot of an email purportedly from TD (Canada), which indicates that the person mentioned in the video is no longer employed by TD. Since being posted, the video has garnered over 335k views, prompting curiosity among viewers about how the original user obtained access to the email.
One individual inquired about how the original poster knew that the person worked for TD.
Another comment expressed sadness, acknowledging that the individual had made a mistake. However, there was concern about their job loss and potential immigration implications.
A third comment humorously noted that the person now truly needed the food bank.
