Amid the trending hashtags #KristiNoemIsAMonster and #PuppyKiller on X (formerly Twitter), Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s estranged niece, disclosed the reason behind South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s admission to killing a goat named ‘Cricket’ and another unnamed family goat.
In her forthcoming book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recounts the story of shooting her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, a wirehaired pointer, after deciding it was ‘less than worthless’ and ‘untrainable.
Following the release of an excerpt from Kristi Noem’s book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, Mary Trump, a vocal critic of the former US president, publicly stated that Noem’s actions could resonate with the presumptive Republican nominee.
Mary Trump criticized Congresswoman Kristi Noem, asserting that Noem’s revelation about killing a puppy was a calculated move to appeal to Donald Trump, whom she hopes to be the vice presidential candidate.
In a February interview with Fox News, Donald Trump suggested that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a close ally, could be a potential vice presidential candidate. He mentioned that Noem, along with six other candidates, was being considered.
“My cat died when he was six. I’ll never get over it and I’d do anything to get him back. Kristi Noem murdered her puppy because she couldn’t be bothered. This is who they are.”

Useers react to Mary Trump’s post:
“Kristi Noem deserves to be imprisoned for animal cruelty,” one commenter stated.
Another person expressed empathy for Mary, adding three heart emojis.
A third user shared their own experience, saying, “I still think about some of the cats that got away years ago.”
Mary responded following criticism from several Republicans regarding Noem’s revelation.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House staffer who now co-hosts The View, expressed her horror at the Kristi Noem excerpt. As a dog lover, she found the account deeply troubling, emphasizing that a 14-month-old dog is still a puppy and can be trained. According to her, proper training from humans plays a significant role in a dog’s behavior, and dogs are indeed a gift from God.
“I wish I hadn’t even read it. A 14-month old dog is still a puppy & can be trained. A large part of bad behavior in dogs is not having proper training from the humans responsible for them,” she wrote.
Until someone is sick and twisted, it’s hard to understand why they would boast about such a horrifying incident.
“While we have a deep love for animals, difficult decisions like this are common on a farm. Regrettably, we recently had to euthanize three horses that had been part of our family for 25 years,” Noem defended herslef in a post to X.
