Flora Martinez, a sixth-grader at Duane D. Keller Middle School in Las Vegas, tragically took her own life after facing persistent bullying throughout the school year. Her parents are now blaming the Clark County School District for failing to protect their daughter.
“Look how hard it was on my daughter. My daughter was literally bullied to death,” Her mother, Alice Martinez, told 8News.
“I feel like the school had a duty to keep her safe, while she was in their care and they just failed miserably,” Alice Martinez added.
Flora’s family reported the persistent bullying to the school’s assistant principal early in the 2023-24 academic year, but unfortunately, the situation did not improve.

In October of last year, Flora’s mother submitted paperwork to transfer her out of the middle school, but unfortunately, the request was denied. Her mother had already kept her at home for two weeks due to the ongoing incidents.
“This wasn’t just one incident that happened, and you know, she decided to take her life,” her father said, revealing it was “months and months and months of bullying that built up” until she “just couldn’t take it no more.”
According to Flora’s former classmate Rico, “she was consistently kind to everyone.”
He added, “I felt like it’s my fault because I should have really done something. I should have pushed everybody out of the way. Got to her.”
On Thursday, Ms. Flora’s funeral was held. This tragic event follows the suicide of 10-year-old Sammy Teusch from Indiana, who also faced relentless bullying at school
