Jeff Bogdan, who served as the Director of Learning and Development (L&D) at Microsoft Windows for 33 years, found himself abruptly terminated from his position in February. His job elimination was a consequence of Human Resources (HR) adopting the hub-and-spoke model for L&D, a strategy he had fervently advocated for.
In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Bogdan shared his “incredible” experience at the tech giant.
Jeff shared the poignant conclusion of his remarkable 33-year journey with Microsoft. His tenure abruptly ended in February when his position was eliminated. During his final days at the company, he made earnest efforts to bid a “proper goodbye” to his extensive second family.
Following this emotional farewell, Bogdan retreated to Chelan, where he spent two weeks alternating between cherished family time and solitary reflection.
Jeff Bogdan eloquently reflected on his entire Microsoft career, describing it as an incredible ride. Among the numerous projects he contributed to, three stand out as his proudest achievements: Windows Phone, Zune, and Windows 95.
However, the most significant turning point occurred during the last two years when he successfully advocated for and secured an L&D (Learning and Development) role within the Windows division.
His premise was clear: having effectively propagated a “learn-it-all” mindset across the organization, it was time to introduce a complementary “teach-it-all” mindset. In this new role, Bogdan focused on organizing learning investments for a 2,000-person organization.
He diligently aligned these efforts with learning and development offerings from parent organizations and central HR. His dedication to fostering continuous growth and knowledge dissemination left a lasting impact on the company’s culture.
