On Wednesday, February 21, Nikki Haley, a US Republican Presidential candidate, expressed her view that in-vitro fertilization-created embryos are “babies”. This stance aligns her with the Alabama Supreme Court. During an interview, she stated, “To me, embryos are babies,” as reported by NBC News.

Last week saw a significant development where the state’s highest court acknowledged unimplanted human embryos as children. In a conversation with NBC News, the ex-governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, expressed her belief that an embryo represents a life.
She stated, “When you discuss an embryo, in my view, you’re discussing a life. I understand the perspective that’s being conveyed.”
Previously, during her tenure as governor, she endorsed a bill prohibiting abortions at 20 weeks, with no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

In response to a query about the potential effects of the Alabama ruling on individuals pursuing IVF procedures, the Republican Presidential nominee stated,
“This is an extremely personal and sensitive matter, and I believe it’s a discussion that should be held between the doctor and the patient. We should never undervalue the significance of the doctor-patient relationship in these situations,” as reported by Bloomberg.
The recent verdict by the Alabama Supreme Court, which declared that frozen embryos can be legally recognized as children under state law, could potentially complicate the process for those seeking to conceive through fertility treatments.
Nikki Haley revealed that her 22-year-old son was born through artificial insemination. She has openly declared herself as “unapologetically pro-life” in the past. During the Republican primary debates last year, Haley expressed her belief that decisions on abortion policies should be left to individual states and she minimized the concept of a nationwide prohibition.
