Jonathan Diller, who leaves behind a wife and a 1-year-old son, was in the process of removing Rivera from a vehicle during the tragic encounter. It was during this critical moment that he was struck. He was immediately transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The tragic incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. when police focused on a car obstructing a bus stop. As officers instructed Guy Rivera to exit the vehicle, he resisted their commands. The situation escalated, leading to Officer Diller being shot under his protective vest.
Remarkably, despite his injuries, Officer Diller heroically managed to wrestle the gun away from Rivera before collapsing, according to the New York Post.
Amidst the chaos, Officer Diller’s partner took decisive action, retaliating against the suspect. Rivera, with a lengthy criminal history, was injured during the confrontation. Additionally, the vehicle’s driver, Lindy Jones, who also has a record of criminal activity, was well-known to the authorities and had been linked to previous offenses.
