Brittany Lauga, an Australian Member of Parliament, reported that she was drugged and sexually assaulted in Yeppoon, a town in central Queensland. She shared her experience on social media and contacted the police during the early hours of April 28th.
During the week, Brittany Lauga received messages from other women in the town who had faced similar experiences. She emphasized that such incidents could happen to anyone and sadly, they occur frequently.

“This could have happened to anyone and tragically, it does happen to many of us,” the Australian MP said.
“Tests at the hospital confirmed the presence of drugs in my body which I did not take. This substance impacted me significantly,” Brittany Lauga in an Instagram post.
“I have had multiple women contact me who have experienced the same thing in our town. It’s not ok. We should be able to enjoy socialising in our town without the risk of being drugged or assaulted,” Brittany Lauga added.
A video allegedly showing the assault on Brittany Lauga, filmed from across the street, is currently circulating online, as reported by The Guardian. Brittany Lauga became aware of its existence shortly after she reported the incident to the police.
The Queensland Police Service has initiated an investigation into a sexual assault complaint connected to an incident in Yeppoon. Queensland Premier Steven Miles expressed the government’s commitment to supporting Brittany Lauga in every possible manner, as reported by ABC.
“No one should have to go through what Brittany is going through,” Steven Miles was quoted as saying.
“My primary concern is Brittany’s well-being. I assured Brittany Lauga that we stand ready to assist her with whatever she requires,” he added.
Queensland housing minister Meaghan Scanlon said the statement made for “difficult reading”.
“Those are shocking allegations … I understand that Brittany is going to take a short time to look after herself and we absolutely support her to do that,” she said.
