On Monday evening, a horrifying attack unfolded at the Assyrian Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. During a live-streamed mass, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was allegedly stabbed multiple times while at the altar.

As the bishop crumpled to the floor, the echoes of terror reverberated through the church. Worshippers, their faces etched with fear, screamed in shock and rushed toward him.
Following the stabbing incident, four individuals are currently receiving medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries. Among them are four men, ranging in age from 20 to 70 years old. Their injuries include lacerations, a painful testament to the violence that unfolded within the sacred walls of the church. In connection with the incident, authorities have apprehended a suspect.
“The injured individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics before being conveyed to hospital,” police said.
The incident occurred Just two days prior, Sydney was already reeling from another horrifying incident. At Westfield Bondi Junction, a deranged knifeman went on a rampage, claiming the lives of six innocent individuals.
The Wakeley neighborhood serves as a focal point for Sydney’s tight-knit Christian Assyrian community. A significant number of its residents sought refuge in Australia, escaping persecution and conflict in their homelands of Iraq and Syria.
The disturbing video of the Wakeley attack circulated extensively on social media platforms. In the footage, terrified worshippers can be heard screaming in terror as the violent incident unfolds.
