Police reports indicate that Ricks entered the establishment while Lynch was working her shift behind the counter. In a fit of anger, he hurled a tray at an electronic menu.
Later, when other employees escorted him outside, he allegedly became even more enraged and violently pulled Ms. Lynch to the ground, stomping on her head twice.
The assault resulted in severe injuries for the girl, including a concussion, a fractured skull, and damage to her frontal lobe.
The family of the girl has established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with her medical costs. According to Shawnunique Phillips, the teenager’s mother, her 15-year-old daughter and fellow teenage co-workers were assaulted while working at McDonald’s.
The incident began in the drive-thru when a group of adults spat on her daughter and another young man at the cash register. The situation escalated inside the restaurant, with the adults also damaging McDonald’s property by throwing objects and vandalizing the self-serve screens.
“She is fighting hard to stay upbeat and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle,” her mother wrote, adding that the incident “shattered” the family’s lives.
Ricks faces charges of felony assault and second-degree property damage, and he is currently in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center. His upcoming court appearance is set for April 25.
Despite her injuries, Ms. Lynch is now out of the hospital and recuperating at home. She remains hopeful about returning to work soon.
“As a local business owner, I prioritize the safety of both our employees and customers. My team and I sincerely appreciate the exceptional work of the St. Louis County Police Department,” Jimmy Williams’ stated.
