In a twist, reports suggest that the wife of convicted terrorist Sami Al-Arian was spotted at a university encampment before a significant police operation. Mayor Eric Adams has attributed the chaos on campus to external agitators in a recent statement.
On May 1, the wife of a former college professor convicted of terrorism-related charges was spotted at Columbia University just before a police raid led to multiple arrests.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated on Wednesday that the NYPD had started focusing on individuals not affiliated with the university, aiming to clear out a group that supported terrorism and had occupied an academic building.

During an interview with MSNBC, the mayor alluded to an individual whose husband had been arrested and convicted for federal-level terrorism.
Before the incidents at Columbia, Sami al-Arian, a vocal Palestinian political activist and former computer engineering professor at the University of South Florida, publicly acknowledged that his wife Nahla participated in anti-Israel demonstrations on an Ivy League campus.
On Wednesday morning, the New York Police Department reported a total of 282 arrests, with 173 occurring at City University and 109 at Columbia.
The mayor previously commented that if one were to search, they could likely discover this information, possibly through self-acknowledgment on social media platforms, in the context of the ‘terror and lies’ situation.
Assistant Commissioner Rebecca Weiner of the New York Police Department reported that the individuals who occupied Hamilton Hall were also instructed in techniques like dressing in black, constructing barricades, creating improvised weapons, and damaging security cameras and property.
